The best teas for your health + beauty

Tea has to be the most accessible and affordable way to boost your beauty regime. Water is essential to your health and we should all sip on water throughout the day as it's more beneficial to hydrate your body regularly, rather than flush your system with a litre of water. This really isn't good as you flush essential vitamins and minerals from your system. The best way to take good care of your body is to add herbal teas to your daily habits. We aren't talking about the caffeinated teas here, what we want are the herbal benefits from tea that supports your gut health from the inside out. With so many tea shops popping up it's got to be a good thing, many people are onto using teas to support their health these days. 

Tea No.1 - Chamomile is the perfect relaxing tea that can improve your beauty sleep. When we simply aren’t sleeping very well the mirror doesn't lie, dark circles start appearing and it's time to get some R&R starting with a cup of chamomile tea in the early evening (to help get you to bed early) or have a cuppa whenever you are feeling stressed. Some also swear by placing a cool chamomile tea bag on their eyes to help calm puffiness in the morning. But, asthmatics need to be careful with this tea as it can bring on asthma. For a soothing eye bag, steep the tea bag in boiling water and allow it to cool before placing over your eyes, and taking some time out to relax. Follow with fresh Aloe Vera gel or your favourite facial oil applied as a little massage to help calm tense muscles. 

Tea No.2 - Fresh Ginger is without doubt one of the best teas for your health. Ginger is anti-inflammatory, this is ideal for supporting your joint health. It also helps to improve digestion and the absorption of nutrients from other food, ginger tea can help to reduce bloating after eating too much. Reducing inflammation in the body, ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties making it ideal as a home remedy for your health and beauty care. To reduce inflammation of the skin, cut fresh ginger into slices and place over the irritated skin or sore joint. This is a quick and easy poltice to prepare and some also use ginger topically to help reduce neck pain. Try a cup of ginger tea throughout the day to help calm and soothe inflmmation, or apply fresh slices of ginger topically to help reduce pain and nausea.

Tea No.3 - Chai Tea is delicious! If you haven't made this fresh then now is the time to start brewing. Chai tea is known as a powerful herbal blend of tea, herbs and spices. This blend of aromatic herbs and spices has been used in India for centuries to help preserve general health and wellbeing. MBG Mind Body Green says we should all drink Chai tea, "the more we learn about chai, the more benefits we find. In addition to improving digestion, chai enhances the immune system, fights inflammation and has antioxidant properties." You can choose to make this with or without caffinated tea, but a good quality tea geives the best flavour.

How To Make Chai Tea

See the ingredients below, combine in a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer. Allow the brew to reduce to a syrupy texture with the lid off and wholla you have your own home made Chai tea, simply strain before serving. For those who own a cappuccino machine, you can use the milk frother to heat the syrup and then heat the milk as usual. Others will need to heat a serve of the syrup and a cup of milk. It's well worth the aroma that lingers throughout the house, it works to restore balance and peace of mind. Stay clam and have a cup of tea!

Ingredients:

2-inch piece of fresh ginger, cut into thin rounds.

1 cinnamon stick.

1 teaspoon black peppercorns.

10 whole cloves.

3 Star anise.

6 cardamom pods split.

4 teaspoons of dark brown sugar.

6 cups of boiled water.

4 bags of black tea.
